Changes to services due to Coronavirus (COVID-19)

Update 7th July

Birth Registrations. You may now book an appointment online to Register your baby - we will be prioritising babies born up to 30th April 2020. These will take place by prior appointment only at Loxley House, Station Street and you will be sent new guidelines to follow. The legal requirement to register your baby within 42 days is temporarily suspended.

Ceremonies- We will commence marriage and civil partnership ceremonies this week, again prioritising those couples who missed their wedding date due to COVID. Ceremonies will be restricted to the legal minimum words and numbers of guests allowed at the ceremony are also reduced. We are able to take bookings for 2021 although at this time we do not know if or when ceremonies will return to normal pre-COVID.

Notices of marriage or Civil Partnership- We are now booking notices appointments for couples who are marrying within the next 2 months only. If your ceremony is in 2021 we request that you contact us around 2 months before your wedding date to book an appointment.

From 1st April 2020 registrations for deaths will move to a telephone basis. Your doctor or hospital will send the medical certificate to the registration service electronically, and we will contact you to make a telephone appointment, complete the registration and issue the green form for burial or cremation electronically. We will also supply you with a Tell Us Once reference number to enable you to access this service.  After the registration is completed you will be advised to apply for Death certificates using our online ordering service and these will be posted to you.

Citizenship ceremonies will no longer be taking place at this time.  Customers would normally be expected to book their citizenship ceremony within three months of being sent an invitation from the Home Office. Due to the current pandemic circumstances UKVI have extended this period to six months and will keep this under constant review. Customers should be advised that no adverse decisions will be made on applications because of delays caused by Coronavirus.

If you have questions or concerns regarding your citizenship ceremony, wedding, civil partnership or registering a birth, please email or contact us on 0115 8415554

These changes will remain in place until Government restrictions are lifted.
