Inclusive Education Service aims to promote the inclusion and attainment of children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities.
The teams provide support in the home, early years' settings, mainstream schools, special schools and pupil referral units.
Support is currently provided by the:
- Autism Team
- Learning Support Team
- Sensory and Physical Team
Each team offers a continuum of specialist support to children and young people, their families and schools which is flexible in nature and can be tailored to meet individual needs.
Core role
The core role of the teams is to build capacity within schools and settings, supporting staff development and the implementation of effective policies and practices, so that children and young people with SEND are included in all aspects of school/setting life and make good progress. All core activities should result in sustainable outcomes for schools - so that schools and settings can continue to meet pupil need following support/intervention from the service.
Funding
Elements of the work of the teams will be funded by the local authority. This includes support to individual pupils who have the most significant needs. Each team has published criteria to identify the nature of pupils who will receive individual support as part of the core role.
Support for pupils who do not fulfil the criteria is still available at a reasonable charge.
