Join online or by visiting one of our reopened libraries.

It’s free to join the library. Applying online for a library card is quick and easy, we’ll email your library card within one working day so you can start using our free online services straight away.

Join the Library Online

Completing this form should take around 5 minutes.

What you need to do:

  • Fill in the application form, where you will be able to choose a PIN, at least four characters long. Remember to make a note of your PIN.
  • After you complete the form and click Register, you will then get a temporary membership number. 
  • Email your name and temporary number to
  • Our library staff will then process your application and email your library card number which you can then use straightaway.

You can use your library card at any Nottingham City or Nottinghamshire Inspire Libraries.

Please note: If we find that you are already a member of the library service, we will email you to clarify your details.

You can apply for a library card if you:

  • Live in Nottingham City, Nottinghamshire, Derby City and the surrounding counties of Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Lincolnshire.
  • Work or study in Nottingham but don’t live here.

Remember, you don't need to apply for a new card if:

  • You have a card, but forgot your PIN. Click here to request a new PIN.
  • You have lost your card. Email with your name, address and date of birth and we’ll check our records and email you a new card.
Apply for a library card online

By sending us this form you are:

  • Declaring that the information is correct
  • Agreeing to be responsible for all items borrowed using the library membership card
