The Arts Education Co-ordinator works to link education and arts/cultural sectors.

Working together with both helps identify the benefits of working with each other. Our main aim is to support and develop high quality arts opportunities for schools.

Areas of work include:

· Consulting with staff about their school's arts and creative curriculum.

· Running regular inset sessions for teachers of Art, Craft & Design, Dance and Drama.

· Evaluating education sessions in local arts/cultural venues.

· Working with Nottingham's visual and performing arts venues to ensure schools are aware of what opportunities are coming up.

· Compiling and managing an artists' directory for schools.

· Providing opportunities for teachers and artists to meet.

· Co-ordinating exhibitions and performances to showcase Nottingham schools' arts work.

· Running a programme where staff work with a drama specialist to plan and jointly deliver lessons linked to their chosen topic areas, provide inspiring and enjoyable activities and links to the wider curriculum, including purposeful writing. A teacher has commented:

'High quality CPD throughout this project has raised the profile and importance of drama within literacy lessons and beyond. A few simple techniques help draw out pupils' understanding of characters, scenes etc...the reservations around drama...have diminished for me.'

Both Arts Education Co-ordinators have been involved with Artsmark (as trainers and validator) and Arts Award (as trainer and adviser) for many years. We have a great deal of experience in helping schools to prepare for both schemes.

If you would like to find out more about these opportunities and how you could get involved, please do get in touch.
